Brief

Santa Maria Strawberry Festival

For the last four years Beach Betty Creative has contracted with the Santa Maria Fairpark, a state agency, to promote its two biggest events, including the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival, which attracts more than 70,000 people annually. The Fairpark wanted to increase its social media presence, gain more media exposure, and of course, attract more visitors, while increasing profits.

Deliverables

Marketing efforts have focused on increasing online outreach and audience engagement, specifically through Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram platforms. Lead initiatives have included contests specifically designed to generate a boost in new traffic, by relying on loyal fans spreading the word to their social circles.

Media outreach activities have been designed to find new story angles to generate media excitement.

Beach Betty Creative principle Shelly Cone contacts media to pitch stories and handles all on-air television and radio interviews assuring that the message is consistent with branding and the marketing strategic plan.

Results

Last year we focused media attention on our free-strawberry tasting event at the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival and the result was the event had to close early because they ran out of strawberries.

Media and online outreach efforts have also played a strong part in an overall steady increase in attendance over the last three years, and even a record attendance at the Santa Maria Valley Strawberry Festival.
